Planning for Your Vacation

It is that time of year, when I see many of my clients go on vacation and come back 5 to 10 pounds heavier and then become unmotivated to start exercising again.  During their vacations they ate too much, drank too much and sat too much. 

This doesn’t have to happen.  In fact many of my clients will come back from a vacation and not gained a pound.  These people have learned to plan for their vacations.  What does that mean?  MODERATION is KEY.  You need to plan ahead.  There are a few things you can do.  First, planning an ACTIVE vacation will help.  Keep healthy snacks with you at all times.  This stops you from binging later.  Reward yourself with non-food items during your vacation.  Instead of overindulging in desserts, give yourself a massage.  Try some short workouts (10 to 15 minutes a day) to remind you of what is important.

Even if you have managed to gain weight during your vacation, try to start exercising immediately when you get back.  I have seen people come back from vacation and wait weeks to get back into it, thus adding to their weight gain.  The key is to have a plan and involve your loved ones in it.  It can make all the difference!
